Google has announced the opening of Ananta, its fourth campus in Bengaluru. Located in Mahadevapura, the office is one of the company’s largest globally and represents a significant step in its commitment to India.
The name, Ananta, means ‘infinite’ or ‘limitless’ in Sanskrit. It signifies the boundless potential of technology to improve lives.
Ananta spans 1.6 million square feet and has a capacity for over 5,000 employees. The office will accommodate teams from various Google units, including Android, Search, Pay, Cloud, Maps, Play, and Google DeepMind.
“For Google, India has always represented a unique opportunity, not just to reach millions of users, but also shape our products with Indian ingenuity,” said Sunil Rao, vice president, global delivery, Google Cloud India.
“Ananta will further accelerate this mission, enabling us to deliver world-class products, foster deeper partnership with our customers, and continue to focus on solving the most complex challenges facing users, businesses and startups in India and around the world,” said Anand Rangarajan, vice president, Google DeepMind.
Google highlighted that the campus features neighbourhood-style workspaces designed for collaboration while also providing areas for individual focus. It includes a central gathering space called Sabha, tactile flooring for visually impaired individuals, and walking and jogging paths for casual meetings and breaks.
The facility integrates sustainability measures such as one of India’s largest installations of electro-chromic glass, 100% wastewater recycling, and on-site rainwater harvesting.
Google has expanded its engineering and product teams in India in recent years. The country represents one of its largest employee bases outside the United States. The big-tech company has also relocated several technical and engineering roles to India as part of a restructuring effort.
Google operates offices in Bengaluru, Gurugram, Hyderabad, Mumbai, and Pune. Besides Ananta, Google operates from other notable locations in Bengaluru such as the Kyoto Campus at Bagmane Capital Park and the RMZ Infinity Campus on Old Madras Road.
Additionally, Google has leased substantial office space in Alembic City, Whitefield, and has agreed to lease more space from Bagmane Developers, further expanding its footprint in Bengaluru.
The company has invested billions of dollars in India to bring more people and businesses online and to strengthen its presence in artificial intelligence and other key areas.
