Pragya Misra was OpenAI’s first India hire. Misra is tasked with developing regulations in collaboration with the Indian government during a period when the government too is actively considering AI regulations. OpenAI, the company that changed the technology landscape with the release of ChatGPT in 2022, remains at the forefront of AI research and development.
Interestingly, this was not the first time Misra became the first hire for a foreign company in India. In July 2018, she joined WhatsApp as a communications manager – the company’s first employee in India.
Misra has also served as the director of public affairs at Truecaller. She did her MBA from the International Management Institute, New Delhi, in 2012 and completed a diploma in bargaining and negotiations from the London School of Economics and Political Science.
